Victor Willis rose to fame in the late 1970s as the original lead singer and co-founder of the Village People, co-writing hits like YMCA, Macho Man and In the Navy. His flamboyant stage personas, including a policeman and naval officer, became as iconic as the music itself. YMCA, released in 1978, topped charts in 17 countries and was later recognised by the US Library of Congress and the Grammy Hall of Fame for its cultural significance.
